Hi there

I had a Fibre line installed by ISP 1. And I used it for about 6 months. They are the only ISP in our area that I know of, and on the other ISP's maps, it doesn't show that there is any fibre in our area, yet I know a number of people in our estate that has fibre with ISP 1. There is also an OPenServe cabinet in our estate.

ISP 1's service is absolutely shocking, and they charge exorbitant fees because they are the only ISP currently in the area.

I would like to go to another ISP.

How do I do this, given all the info above?

You start by explaining yourself clearly.

Are you suggesting that you have a fibre provider that has only one ISP on it? Like Vodacom?

What is the openserve cabinet there for?

Are you asking how to move from one infrastructure provider to anther, or from one ISP on an open access network to another ISP on the same fibre line?

Firstly, I apologize for my ignorance in how I expressed myself, but I am sure you can understand that not everyone knows all the lingo and mechanics behind how a fibre installation works.

Let me try and answer your questions a clearly as I can....

I am not sure whether the fibre provider has one ISP on it...

I don't know what the Openserve cabinet is for...

Sure, with what you'r telling us we can't advise you though.

With the name and street address of the complex, I can look into who the fibre provider is, and from there advise how to change ISP's on that provider.

First make sure that there is another ISP that provides coverage.
I have seen some complexes where only Telkom Retail fibre are available, even though there is Openserve fibre, you cannot order it from another ISP.
Your current ISP needs to put the line into the holding pool, so yes, they can object.
Other option is to ask new ISP to install a new line but that is expensive.
