Porting away from MTN

This morning I tried to port from MTN to Telkom Mobile. The person who helped me at Telkom said that the process should take about 10 minutes. After 2 more tries, he lodged a complaint. He told me that lately they have been getting delays from Vodacom and MTN. It's now been 2 and a half hours, and I still haven't gotten the sms to say that I am being ported.

How long did it take for others to port away from MTN?

Mine took about a week.
You didnt mention though if its prepaid or contract because that makes a substantial difference.

I'm currently on MTN prepaid. I moved from my MTN contract onto prepaid on Wednesday, when the 24 months ended. A week is crazy, I thought that I could get this done today.

They usually have automatic systems for this. One the port request is submitted the donating service provider responds with a accept or declined answer in less than 10min.....

If you get no response it means something went wrong. It got declined or some sort of delay or error from the donar carrier....

I eventually got it sorted out after 5 attempts over 4 hours. The first 3 messages all came through at once. The 2nd took more than 10 minutes to get to me, and finally the 5th worked. I was told that my Telkom sim should work by 7pm, holding thumbs for that.

It might not cause its a public holiday but will tomorrow night 7pm.... You might be lucky and they port it today but its possible that it might not too. So don't stress if it doesn't. If it doesn't work by Wednesday morning yeah then something went wrong....

Yeah I recently had a missions doing the same thing. I ended up with 2 sims the same number but only the MTN one worked for receiving but I could call out on the new number with the TM one....

Very strange but the TM rep eventually sorted it out. 19:30 the changeover happened.

Well it hasn't happened today. I'll try to sort it out tomorrow. It's quite annoying, since I deliberately ran my airtime balance down to R0 already.

It can still happen though hey.... If it did not happen before 00:00 its safe to say it won't happen today... Most likely tomorrow. If not by Wednesday morning the something went wrong. :)

My number was ported tonight. Glad that I can now start using my new phone properly.
