Hi all, I use vm for my internet, and have another phone for voice calls with vc. But what I thing now, is why 2 phones, 2 simcards? I see vm's call charges are not too bad, and I especially like their data rates. I'm interested in the v100 plan. What is your overall ups and downs with vm? I cant think that you will stuck without coverage, cause they use cell c and vodacom network. And I like the idea that you are not really attached to a contract, unless you take a phone with the package. And if you ported to vm, what are their porting charges, including the new sim, and everything? Thanks

I have not ported, but based on detail calculations on my itemised bills, VM looks good. The only way to get a lower call rate is some special offer of one of the competitors.

data rates obviously very good.
in my house my connection is through vodacom.
There are still a few issues with interent connection/dropouts/timeout, that sort of stuff. So there is a small % of the time where i cant connect. But, i do have 2 connection options - dial up through windows, and dial up through the mobile phone software. If one dont work, i go over to the other and it usually works (such as right now, i'm connected thru mobile phone software, cause windows connection wouldnt go through after a few tries)

Generally happy with VM.

VM is stressful, just logging in,and the losing connection just sucks more big time.

Usually true, but maybe.... my virgin is on steroids today with connection speeds over 5KBS on gprss all the time.

I would have ported if my numerous attempts hadn't been thwarted by VM customer service's sheer incompetence.

I actually hate "down playing" them because they are the "little guys" in the cellular market and they have flat rate data which is more "consumer centric" than data bundles...

But I have had nothing but headaches from them (except during about the first two months after they lanched) and based on my current experiences with tthem, I would not recommend them at all.

I just started using them a week ago. Very happy, expecially the data rates :D
I got EDGE coverage here instead of 1 or 2 bar VC coverage so for me the GPRS from VC is way slower than VM~

In the beginning when I started using vm for internet, I had some problems. But then I heard I must set my phone to use vc network, from then I never had any problems. Not one complained about not having coverage, and their prices for calls are good, just their customercare that are not on standard, so I think it's worth a try.

I have been using VM together with my Nokia 6680 via the PC Suite. I rarely have problems connecting and even less dropped connections. VM works for me and is to be recommended.

VM is great! i ported from vodacom to virgin after christmas, it took a day to port, and the next day i was on their network. The charges to port is you have to buy one of their sim packs for 55bucks, and thats it. You also have to fill out this form, if u are porting from their stores, but you can also port through their friendly customer services.
Im totally satisfied with their service, no regrets! i use my phone for the internet mostly, its so cheap and fast if u live in an edge area like i do. When i connect it to my computer, its goes at 12-13kbps, and it also works with skype etc. I love it, its like broadband i can afford! The only thing i dislike about them is the way they sometimes switch coverage to vodacom when their coverage is bad. When they do switch, does it mean i have to pay VC rates for calls and data?

If you work with the VM sim and VM switches to VC tower because of signal strenght etc, you still pay VM rates. You can even force your phone or datacard to VC with your VM sim and still pay VM rates, but you may get GPRS only data speed.

Nowadays I get better speeds when the phone is on cell c network. I think it's because vc network are overloaded. But I always pay the same for data.
