Does anyone know if it is possible to port your number out of a running contact (month to month) at Cell C.

I want my number to go to Vodacom and get a new number on my Cell C contract.

Thanks in advance.

I tried to do this some years ago. The port to Vodacom went through, but Cell-C seemed to be unable to assign a new number to their contract SIM (and wanted to continue charging me for a service they were unable to provide).

I know Vodacom are able to assign a new number after you port out.

Cell-C's systems may have improved though.

Thanks! I am planning to cancel the contract soon after. I just don't want to wait 30+ days to cancel, wait to move to Cell C prepaid and then wait to be ported. Hopefully this way things can happen in parallel.

For me the easiest way was to do a number change.

Rica a new prepaid simcard. Ask the Cellc rep on mybb or facebook to do a number change for you. They will move the contract number to the prepaid simcard. Now once that happens the contract simcard will get a new number instantly and your number will be on the prepaid sim. Now you can port without it getting declined by cellc. ;)

You can also submit a cancellation from retentions department on 084143 and ask them to cancel and move number to prepaid. You get a sms of the exact date it changes to prepaid. On that date when it switched over to prepaid you can port out.
