Hi guys,

I was just sold a phone from the sales people at Telkom and was informed that I can port my prepaid Telkom mobile number to the contract Telkom Mobile sim once I get the contract sim.

The guy told me to call 081 180 and select option 3 and thereafter the option that relates to porting. There are no such options.

Has anyone gotten it right to port their prepaid number to the contract sim?

If this doesn't work out I'll just cancel this contract the moment I get it. I'm not gonna walk around with two sims.

Yes I did something similar.
This exact thing happened to me on MTN side. The sales person took my number down and claimed it would be ported into the contract. Just to find out the one requirement I had wasn't met and I sat with 2 sims for 2 years basically. Called over 30 times to call centres no one could help.

Bit weary about this but thanks, I will go the store immediately

Yup. Prepaid sim onto my profile then contract maybe a month later.
Port it first to be safe.

Telkom was great, but my last experience with them says do the port-in your self.
The instructions are on the SIM card package, you need to start it from your current sim and then when that dies you can put the Telkom sim in but not before as the network would allocate you a number.

Thing is it's already ordered and the man told me it will be a new number so I wanted to know if I can replace the contract number basically with my telkom mobile number

I’d be wary, but I wouldn’t be too concerned.
You already have a profile, and it’s on ‘order’(no stock).

He maybe meant new SIM card, Telkom’s MO is/used to be that you’d get a new SIM card when doing an upgrade etc.
Even with online sales, new sim with the phone couriered.

Not really a port, more a sim swap.
Which isn’t hectic, they’ll do it as part of the device inspection aspect.

It is possible
Telkom consultant done it for me
Your original number will be unavailable for a few hours while technical move the number over to your contract.
Ori number telkom prepaid?

You should port your number to prepaid first for a few weeks and then ask for it to be converted to a contract. This is SA, things have to be done 1 step at a time

I had a prepaid Telkom number, took out a contract and wanted to move my prepaid sim to the contract. They ended up cancelling my existing number, so I ended up sitting with 2 new numbers. Endless calls to the call center and shop visits eventually got my old number restored in approximately 2 weeks
