Porting to MTN from Telkom

I bought a new MTN SIM (RICA'd of course) and SMS'd PortMe#SIMNUMBER to 0837678287 yesterday.

At 19:30 yesterday I received an SMS on my Telkom SIM that the port request is complete and I should switch over to the MTN SIM.

Switched over to the MTN SIM but I can't make any calls or do anything.

Is there a step that I've missed? My Telkom SIM is still active and I can make calls/SMS/use data on it :/

Called the Telkom call centre and they weren't much help.

Checked now and my Telkom SIM has a different number. Where did my number go? :wtf:

Your number is on the MTN simcard. Switch it on. You will get a pop up message saying "Welcom to MTN Port In" When you press okay wait like 5min until it shows you a message to restart your phone. Then you can restart your device. Your MTN simcard is active now with your Telkom Mobile number.

Cool. Telkom does not diconnect your simcard they simply allocate a new number on your simcard to allow you to finish your minutes/airtime and data but I think they just don't want to lose any customers.


Also on your new MTN simcard I suggest you run these 2 USSD codes.

*130*603# to opt out on the spam you will get every time you recharge.

*130*501# top opt in for MTN WoW where you get free On net airtime and data if you use R7

Now you if you really want to have epic value for money add a Afrihost mobile data package to your number . ;)

When I try to port to MTN, I get an error about using an invalid SIM number.
Any idea as to what could cause this? I just thought I'd ask for assistance here before subjecting myself to their in-store-service abuse.
 
I am stranded now don't know who to call for help, 26 August 2019 l send a portme request to MTN, until today no respond call again and I was advised to do the same thing twice.

Hey guys, I ported from Vodacom to MTN and now it was giving me problems because they said I must go to the store for the port to be successful.... So I chewed the SIM and now my current Vodacom sim yesterday lost the signal meaning my porting was successful. So today I went to buy another sim to do sim swap I can't because I haven't used the SIM since my porting was successful... I'm stranded please help get my number back

If you have the Vodacom simcard call Vodacom port support and reverse the port. It takes about 2 hours for the port to be reversed and you can start the process over with a new simcard.

Hi I have the same problem, I thought maybe the porting system has changed or something.
 
Hi purchased a new MTN starter pack yesterday and RICA'd it. I also sent a SMS from my Telkom number with the PORTME#10DIGITMTNSIMNUMBER to 0837678287. I haven't received any message about the port to MTN, instead Telkom sent me Internet, MMS settings and something about Whatsapp Digital Care. It is now 24 hours later and i dont see a drop in signal
