Does telkom allow their customers to selectively block ports to their adsl routers?

I've got a smoothwall on a remote site, I can log in via port 441 and port 222, but I cannot get VNC(5900)/Remote Desktop(3389)/VPN(1723) to work....

We already did a reinstall, but the same situation persists.

The router is a Billion 5200S router, in bridged mode.

Any ideas from the experienced guys? :)

Cheers!

Well, I don't think it's Telkom blocking the ports to be honest. You can try to allow the ports on the Billion router by "forwarding" some ports, either with virtual server, or whatever it uses.

I highly doubt it's Telkom ;) Even if it's in Bridge mode, the router's firewall may be blocking those ports.

Thanks Tera, but I took that same router to my house, connected it up to my smoothy, and I was able to connect from the office via VPN to my system at home.

I will try to disable the firewall and see if that helps.

Thanks

I'm not sure to be honest if it's rule of thumb that a router in Bridge mode bypasses the firewall? So if that doesn't sort it, I don't have any other ideas to be honest. Is it a Linux box? Are there any other software firewalls on the system?

Yes, it's a Linux box.

I've asked the guys on the smoothwall forum what they think it might be.

*sigh*

I need a sanity check quick quick...

at least it's Friday... :)

update :

ran tcpdump on the red port and it shows that packets are received by the smoothie - so something borked on smoothie somehow :(

ah biddy bah :(

Another whoopsy :o

Just realized that the PC's in question does not have a gateway IP set :o

Ach, that's Monday's worry :D

So glad I'm not going bonkers :D

Is the pc in question by any chance on the WebAfrica network?

Reason I ask is, I connected with WebAfrica prepaid last night and saw it did not assign a default gateway IP, but my usual Telkom account did

Maybe something to look into ;)
