My brother and his fiance's wedding is scheduled for 21st June 2025 just outside of Porto so my wife and I are looking at flights, accomodation, visa's, etc. At the moment it doesn't look like we will take our sons as the youngest will be just over a year old. We are looking at where else to visit/travel in Portugal, Spain, France, etc. where we don't have to travel too far.

Any and all suggestions about travel around Portugal and nearby countires would be great...

There was a detailed thread about a Portugal trip earlier this year..

Can't be arsed to do the search for you now though, but you would find everything you need in there..

So I must do the search? This is why I started a thread on MyBB, so others can do the work for me, get your arse in gear dammit...

Stick to Portugal and Spain, France is a place you can skip entirely.

Thanks, reading through the entire thread as and when I can.

We have friends that live there so may swing past, my wife has travelled a bit of Europe as she was an air hostess many years ago, I have done very little so keen to see a bit while we are in Portugal.

Porto to France is a long distance so not ideal to waste a day traveling unless by plane. Beautiful country though.

You have to go I just have a love hate relationship with France. Portugal is great loved it, I did a drive from Lisbon to Porto which is nice to see the smaller places in between, Its not big at all so driving is Manageable.

If you in Lisbon go to Romero great restaurant.

how long you looking at you can easily spend 2 weeks in portugal.

We often stick to one country when doing Europe and spend 2 weeks there and 2-3 days per town area etc

France? only thing beautiful about France is CDG when you leave.
Not an uncommon view. I’ll admit that my last visit was a long time ago but I long to return and take in more of it.

I did France 2019 and would skip Paris now

Here is feedback - not as detailed as my Portugal/serbia threads

No idea at the moment, we'll spend at least 3 - 4 days in or close to Porto for my brothers wedding, getting ideas of where to go and what to see before making final plans. We also don't want to be away from our sons for too long either, we would love to take them but that raises costs and limits what we can do and see as they are still very young.

based on this response alone I wouldnt go to any other country. as close as everything is in europe I realised when traveling less is more, pick a location 2-3 days then travel to another part of the same country just sooo much to see my thread has 5-6 locations I think

Its not that bad I am just being harsh, Paris was actually great second time round.

Thanks, slowly getting through the other thread, I'll hopefully have more specific questions when I am done. One thing we have to figure out though is visa's, I am South African and British so have both passports, my wife is South African but has successfully applied for British citizenship although she hasn't sworn at the King yet so may not have her passport in time.

We went twice over last 20 years and enjoyed it. It has been a while though - just waiting for son to be 10/12 before we visit some part of Europe.
