Hi Gary
I'm looking for this free if possible for a restaurant.
Thanks.

When Aquadyne suggested Win8, I think it was under the assumption that POS stands for Piece of Sh*t, because that's exactly what Win8 is. :p

Openbravo has a reasonably decent POS. I used it to run a "cash" bar for a group of about 100 people, where they ran tabs all night and then paid up at the end. May work for you. Not sure if there is a Windows version though.

It's a Java based POS, runs on any container, Windows or otherwise.

Working for a pos company I can at least say this from personal experience: Try and stay away from Win8 for POS software, primarily because most slip printer drivers are not supported. Same with those pole displays and some biometric scanners.

Other wise, I've done some research into free POS, and most of them seem half finished or run on super old set ups. Then again, not like ours is state of the art. Hell we still endorse WinXP with our kits, mostly because we have some partnership with Microsoft.

What you gonna do come EOL for XP?

According to our regional manager we have a strict contract with Microsoft till 2020, support from Microsoft included. So I really don't know. This company is being stupid for not moving with the times, but luckily that is not my problem.
