possible faulty hp ssd?

bought a HP 250Gb SSD S700 2.5 a few months ago with the intention of replacing my laptop Hdd.

since I'm on leave I decided today is the day for this task - took the SSD out the box - installed it in my laptop, but my laptop (dell inspiron 5559) will not see the SSD?

since my knowledge of pc related stuff is very limited - is there a setting in the bios that may need changing?

drivers?

could it be a faulty SSD?

any advice?

Nope. Nothing.

What must the setting be in the bios for ssd?

i also had something similar with my hp laptop replaced hdd with a wd green ssd did not show up in bios so i had to partition it on my pc then re-installed it in the laptop then it worked fine

Yes except it only does that if I put it into a desktop pc. Even then it has a red X and I cannot initialise it or format it.

I plugged it into a USB drive case and my desktop don't even pick it up.

So went and bought another ssd.

This 1 allows me to format and install win7 Pro 64bit

But it WILL not see my 4 USB ports

Seems dell laptop do NOT like ssd's

You seem to have a 6thGen CPU and motherboard. Although that is the last generation to support Windows 7 you have to install USB3 drivers separately - have you done that?

Sorry my limited pc knowledge I thought the drivers would be on the win7pro 64bit disk?

Windows 7 is most likely the culprit.

Download a linux live image, write to usb stick and boot from it, see if you can format the ssd now.

Ok I suspended my attempt to replace my old hdd with a ssd simply because I can't get the USB ports to work.

seems dell or win7 does not like an ssd
