Hi all,

Sorry if a similar question has been asked before, please send me a link to that thread then.

Is there in any way to make our telephone account cheaper? We want to try move away from Telkom as much as possible because they have sucked enough money out of us now.

Currently we have 384 ADSL line with Telkom and 5GB cap (which we are canceling because Afrihost is much cheaper). Can we migrate our ADSL line to another ISP to make all costs at one provider? And then cancel the phone line? Or do you have to have the phone line with Telkom to have ADSL?

Also thinking of getting a Vox phone, but don't know how good they'll be with a 384 line?

Could anyone give me some guidance to make our telephone account cheaper, please. :)

Hi there Mate,

You can move your adsl to be "controlled" by another ISP but you land up paying telkom anyway. It also makes it harder to move ISP's if one is controlling it. You will then have to get it transferred back to telkom under your name and then mvoe it to your ISP of choice.

Personally i dont have a phyisical phone , I just have the phone line + ADSL line with telkom. You do need the phone line in order to have the adsl line. Not much you can do here.

On the vox query: I havent used it personally but I know alot of homeusers and companies use it.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

The line must also remain post-paid for ADSL.

Thanks for the replies!

So guess we'll just have to stay with Telkom...arrgh  At least they wont be money for data from me then. We don't use the home phone very often, so could really just unplug it or replace it with a Vox phone. But then that is pointless getting a Vox phone and having to pay for a phone line that isn't in use. When is this LLU coming in to play?

vox won't save you much, unless you only call people who have vox also... which is not many. Or if you give out your vox number not you telkom number and RIP all your friends and family off, by making them pay more for a phone call so they can intern help you to get small kick backs from vox to cover your fee...

either way.. you have to pay xyz for vox and the vox phone (which uses your internet cap...)

So why not just pay for adsl+line and use skype to phone people who have skype or even video call them.

you will have to pay for phone line also.. Telkom are AHoles like that...

Rather just go all inclusive adsl @ R349 with mweb and pay telkom R130 odd for phone line..

Like Cider mentioned (and I agree), rather keep your ADSL line with Telkom - makes it much easier to move between ISP's.

Yes this is true. Moving it can take weeks & more often than not the "moving" of the line is a painful process.

Thanks for all the replies! Wish there was some way to make things cheaper but guess we'll just have to keep it the way it is :( Paying R3000 for phones (including cellphones) each month...
