Hey all, was wondering if it maybe was possible to keep a telkom email address? With this WA special that is running I applied for the 4Mb Line special, but now I'm a bit worried about moving ISPs. My dad pays for the internet, but all our accounts (medical aid, vodacom, absa etc.) gets sent to the telkom email... Would be a real pain in the A if we had to let everyone know that our email changed... Any way to keep it?

Get a gmail account and start moving your other accounts (like medical, vodacom, etc) to that gmail account.
The only downside to gmail is that its not local.

I doubt it that you can keep your Telkom email address unless you keep on paying for a Telkom ADSL/internet package. I haven't move my ADSL, so I can't say for sure that its impossible...

nope, you can't keep your telkom email address.
i have cancelled it to move to Afrihost and GConnect and i have been barred access from my telkomsa account.

luckily i had moved my banking and related accounts to my hotmail account.

Thanks... dam thought there was a way. Didnt want the trouble of letting everyone know that the email address changed. Possible to buy 1GB from Telkom just to keep the email address? Even if the line isn't with them anymore?

That should be OK. Maybe you can even get away with a dial-up account.

Yes you can - you just have to pay Telkom for the mail subscription only (I have 2 such acc); In your mail client be sure to have the correct pop3 & smtp servers for Telkom. Sending across multiple accounts however results in relaying errors - eg, I cannot send from my Telkom account using my vodacom mail account & vice versa.

Thanks :D any idea how much this costs or should I just go to Telkom branch and ask (they'll probably not know what I mean and say its not possible)

EDIT: Found the pricing... its R15.69pm! Not bad at all! Am I right with the pricing? Went to TelkomSA site

Please could you post a link to the telkom website as to where this is because i am having the same problem. I just want to pay telkom for an email adress

that is correct. I have done just that and pay R15 odd a month just for email only... I use cybersmart as my isp instead

Now would be the right time to migrate to Gmail. Once you have a gmail account set it up to collect your Telkom email. Only use gmail, after a while you should be able to cancel the telkom email account as well as all mails you send from will have the originating address as that of gmail and your contacts will reply to that address. You could also send out a weekly mail to all your contacts advising of the address change.
