Post Office back on track

I think most people have stopped caring.

My care-o-meter is at zero.

A lot of people unfortunately have to care.

My SO has had to reduce her staff because of the drop in orders coming in because of the postal strike as couriers are only affordable to large cities and Postnet doesn't have branches in all the small towns.

Her sales are down nearly 70% compared to before the strike and has only started to increase slightly with people starting to order Christmas presents now. Her sales in November/December is normally 2-3 times as much as the other months.

Unfortunately for all the online businesses if the courier costs is too much then I will simply not order anymore. I refuse to use the post office and my refusal will likely stay in effect for years. Doubt that I am the only one and a lot of small businesses are going to close.

Also, I am assuming that a notification that my new license has arrived will now come in the mail. I was gonna just blindly walk into the license testing in 4 to 6 weeks.

I have fully cut over to couriers and could not be happier.

One area of the post office business that is ignored on this channel is the older people.

My mother in law is in her late 80's, and depends on the post for letters from her friends and relations spread throughout the world.

EMail is not an option for this generation, but, guess what, as they die out so does the Post office business.

Parcels can be covered by courier, but the simple letter that has been with us since Diaz (Mossel Bay 1488, Post actually started in South Africa) and is going to die in South Africa because of this strike, for which I blame the Fat Cats of the Post Office.

LOL they have crossed their Rubicon. I'll not be renewing my post box this year and I think many other people as well.

My grandparents are 95 and 98 respectively and know how to email. If there is a will there is a way. Of course we left a sheet of instructions next to the laptop.

We have moved all of our monthly statements over to e-mail and will no longer be sending printed statements in envelopes.
Should save us around R3500 a month.

We actually thought about it six months ago because some of our customers were getting scam letters to change our banking details (someone at the post office was opening our envelopes and inserting the scam letter along with our official statement). But now these last few months have been the final straw.

Don't care. A post office that delivers stuff sporadically might as well not exist.

Freakin SA strike culture...

Didn't really miss them except for the ritual of checking the postal box. Government will find a way to keep us paying for this useless service by using a proudly South African method. I also believe that all ANC is doing is laying the groundwork for the coming of the anti-christ. :p

The Post Office will have to offer South Africans something for the huge mess they have created.

Maybe free post for the next month, etc. otherwise they can start closing the front doors.

The South African public learnt how to cope while they were striking & now they are simply not needed any longer.

Good for them, but at their age they have probably outlived their compatriots that couldn't use EMail.
