Post Office branches collapsing country-wide

The Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, sidestepped a question about the deterioration of SA Post Office buildings across South Africa.

Member of the National Assembly, Laetitia Arries, asked Malatsi about the “deeply concerning neglected condition of SA Post Office buildings across the Republic”.

Officials said that the facility has had no power for over two years. It has no Internet access, no computers, and can only collect cash from customers.

But why do they need to collect cash, if the infrastructure is down, what services can they reliably give ?

The main PO in King burnt out years ago after they sold the post boxes off for scrap metal

I go once or twice a year to a Post office in small suburb in the city to renew vehicle licenses. I have never seen anyone in that PO. How they stay open is a mystery.
Its is great however as I am in and out in 5min for my license.

“A key priority of this strategy is to optimise the entity’s property portfolio by utilising a private-public partnership programme to draw in new investment.”

SO, once again, this incompetent Government needs to come cap-in-hand to the private sector - the same private sector that they treat as the enemy - to bail them out! When are these buffoons going to get the boot!?

The Cape Town metropolitan area has over 4m inhabitants
There are 3 Post Offices still open
The nearest one to me is 8km away. Driven past 2-3 times a day. There is never anyone there
Why do they bother?

It first became insolvent in 2014. Since then the corpse has been twitching.

Ok so it's been years of deterioration and collapse which all of the sudden gets queried by the very people that created the collapse and deterioration?

at least people in CPT do stuff with the rusting post boxes,

seen them turn them into street libraries, at least its more useful.

at least another ANC project seen to completion with SAPO.

For all intents and purposes the post office hasn't existed for me for at least two years. There literally isn't even a functioning post office in my region.

So I'm not sure in what way they can be described as "collapsing" as if this is something that is still happening.

If I was the minister I'd just hand over the whole function to PostNet.

The funny thing about "human rights" is, you kind of need to be seen as human first.
Those f**ing pictures tell a whole other story.
