PostBox-Courier.com how to

Thanks, my first time using them, I've been using Stackry for the last 2 years so maybe I've been spoilt :o

Yes Stackry service is fantastic. PBC tries to keep costs low so there's fewer bells and whistles.

Sweet not fussed as long as I receive it within a month and its not all snafu.

Wow I just received my package from PBC. Holy ****, Stackry who?

5. When you fill in your name for the shipping address, fill it in with your parcel ID like so: John123456 Smith.
This will allow PostBox Courier to immediately know who's parcel it is.

I have just registered with PBC and cannot see any reference to this Parcel ID / Name requirement on their website. Has this fallen away or do we still need to do it?

fell away a while back, now you do a parcel pre alert

Do you mind posting more info on the parcel pre-alert so that I can update the first post? I haven't used Postbox Courier in ages so I have no idea about the changes. Thanks.

You now have a Department code which uniquely identifies you to the courier and allows them to consolidate parcels.

To allow them to accurately assign incoming parcels to your collection, you need to create a parcel pre-alert which is essentially a shipping manifest and helps the local depot tie up deliveries.

Guys. Don't forget vat and duty when the item lands in SA.
Also disbursement and sundry costs may come as an added surprise

Anyone know of similar services that consolidates foreign parcels?

Aramex Global Shopper is R175 for <500gram and R275 for <1Kg but they don't consolidate 2 parcels.
Postbox Courier minimum price is $35 which is about R390 for <500g and $41.50(R540) for 1kg but they can consolidate parcels.

There are plenty alternatives but none cheaper than PBC.

Hi all

Considering using PBC to import a few shipments from the USA.
Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of information missing on their website...

A few questions for those of you with experience:

1) With regards to consolidation, do they re-pack all your packages into a new (sometimes larger) box? And what sort of fee do they charge for consolidating?
2) How long do they store shipments at their US depot for free (for the purpose of consolidating)?
3) Are there any additional sales taxes/fees one should expect as a result of shipping via their US depot?
4) Do they include 14% VAT on all shipments as standard, or do you pay this upon receipt of goods?
5) Where do you specify all information for customs duties etc?

Thanks guys!!

Yes they do and they charge $2 per package for this service. The repackaging is what consolidation is all about and the price savings can often be incredible.

2) How long do they store shipments at their US depot for free (for the purpose of consolidating)?
I don't have a firm time frame but I often leave stuff there for more than a month. For example, I'm the last sod with stuff sitting at Miami and it will hopefully depart this weekend (inbound hurricane aside) and the first package was ordered on the 24th July.

3) Are there any additional sales taxes/fees one should expect as a result of shipping via their US depot?
Unfortunately the new depot is on NY state and thus attracts sales tax of about 7-1/2%. Not all sellers will charge you the tax though. On the upside, the turn around is a lot quicker now so you win some and you lose some.

4) Do they include 14% VAT on all shipments as standard, or do you pay this upon receipt of goods?
The initial price is only for the shipping. Once it clears customs, they will email you a duties and clearing invoice if applicable.

5) Where do you specify all information for customs duties etc?
Not 100% sure what you mean but all information is included in the initial package booking. You get to list the value of the parcel and it's on this value that the manifest is created. Some suppliers don't include the original invoice so you could be creative with your declaration.

Thanks guys!!
Hope I've been of some help. Shout if you need more info.

This seems really cool.

Does anyone know what the average time is that it takes to get from Postbox Courier's warehouse in the US to South Africa in your hands?

My experience was anything between 1 and 4 days. I've used PBC about 6 times.

I've used them over 40 times and since they've moved to their Jamaica NY (mon!) depot, the delivery time should be quicker. Work on 3 or 4 days, depending on what time your last parcel arrives at the depot and when they get a slot on the plane.

Sigh havent had 3 - 4 days from them for ages, more like 7 - 10 days. Also there clearing fees are a tad high, anyhow gary is still great to work with but for speed I use other people.
