PostBox-Courier.com how to

I've just had confirmation that the last shipment out of their now defunct depot in Miami which shipped on Saturday is arriving at Jnb tomorrow morning.

Testing this out to replace some cables that were lost in the post...

Shipping off Amazon > Jamaica NY depot > CPT.

Great stuff. The most important thing to remember is to insert the local courier tracking number in the required box. They use this for scanning in your parcel and then to allocate it to your account.

Could you elaborate please? This is my first time using the service.

Thanks,

You need to log into the system and create a parcel pre-alert. This in turn is used to create the manifest for the consolidation.

Having my first issue...

Shipped from an Amazon seller via USPS to PostBox Courier address.

Now I see from my tracking that my item is up for collection at the local post office. How the hell did it end up there and not at the PO Box courier address as specified? Additionally will PO Box courier go and collect and ship it? Confused?

Postbox Courier reply on this:

Hi,

We actually get this quite a lot, but rest assured we have never had to
collect anything from the post office - they always deliver.

In my opinion this tracking status should be for USPS internal use only, as
in, it's available for the postman to collect and go deliver it.

I imagine it will be delivered to us today.

Kind regards

Gary

Fear not, this is just a USPS thing. I believe it's to allow you to collect which is sometimes quicker than waiting for the man in blue to deliver.

In our case it doesn't help so sit back and relax, they will deliver later on.

usps are not sapo and are quite reliable, considering the amount of parcels they move.

Anyone bring in a phone from the US with these guys? Any idea on the % one can guess at for customs/duties?

This is good information to have!

Thank you to the contributors of this thread. Many times the sellers which ship to SA are out of stock and I'm left wanting.

No more!

What you'll pay will be same whichever courier/clearing agent you choose to use. It all depends on the value declared.

Work on roughly 25%.

Got a fantastic reply from Gary in email as well just now. Total customs on a $550 phone (Nexus 6P) will be just under R2000 at current exchange rate.

Kudos to the place for being on the ball and their support.

When these guys are good, they're excellent, however they go through patches of being hard to reach, slow and unresponsive. It's quite frustrating because I'd like to support them but I find their customer support extremely inconsistent.

I think they're too busy for their own good now ;-)

Does anyone know if they will hold goods for you over a certain period and then are you able to send them say to another overseas country? i.e Canada?

Hold for a few weeks, yes but not to ship to any destination other than what's listed on their website. Ask Gary though because even if he can't help you he may know of someone who can.

Guys, Noob here. I wanted to buy a laptop from Dell USA site. Laptop was gonna be 1699USD, I contacted Gary and he was immensely helpful in telling me the fees and customs etc. But then I replied to him concerning insurance and tax but he hasn't replied in a while now......

Basically can anyone tell me, can you insure your items with postbox-courier, if so how much? Additionally, since the US depot is in the NY state, ill pay a hefty +- 150USD tax..... is there anyway around this, or a cheaper alternative where I can avoid the tax? I have checked out Stackry, but seems their shipping fees are double how much I would pay from postbox courier.

Unless the seller does not charge the tax then there is no way to avoid this. For example on Amazon you need to check if the 'other sellers' have the item at the same price or even more because unlike Amazon themselves, the 3rd party sellers do not charge the tax. So even if the item is more from another seller, the price difference may be less than the tax. Have you gone through the process of checking out to see if tax is actually applicable? It may not be so always check first.

The other thing to consider is that if your tax is going to be in the region of +/- $150 then I would consider Stackry as I can't see how it would cost more than that to ship. Maybe look on Ebay for the same laptop as this is also a way to avoid the NY tax.

As always, when buying from overseas every purchase is unique in terms of shipping options, local tax and landed costs so you have to punch the numbers every single time.

Good luck.

Hey guys, this thread has been quiet of late, so I thought I'd resurrect it with a question.

Shipito now offer Aramex as a shipping option. Have any of you used Aramex in the past for both local and / or international deliveries? I'd really appreciate some feedback.

Ta.
