Im using ubuntu server 9.04 and have setup postfix with mysql and courier and virtual users. It is working fine.

I have created a virtual user [email protected] that im using to send emails to my forum users.(virtual and internet).

The problem is that when someone tries to send email to [email protected] then it will reject the email saying no such user is virtual.........

Is there a way so that all email that is send to @webmail.co.za is send directly to mail.webmail.co.za if the user does not exist on the local mail server.

thanx.

Is it possible??

Not too clued up on this but in /etc/postfix/main.cf make sure that webmail.co.za is not listed under 'mydestination'. This way it should attempt to deliver the message using the domain MX rather than handle it itself. Not sure if this will effect your virtual domains

I have foolowed the steps on

http://www.howtoforge.com/virtual-users-domains-postfix-courier-mysql-squirrelmail-ubuntu9.04

The problem is that i have created a webmail domain in my virtual and im using fectmail to download emails from remote webmail. I had to setup it that way coz i have non-internet users(wuggers) that wil also get emails from the forum.

I also have the users of the company on my postfix server and when they try to send a email to someone with a webmail account then it wont send and says user was rejected coz it does not exist.

There is a problem with mail.webmail.co.za i have phoned them a couple of times and they keep on telling me that the problem will be sorted at close of business... that was 2 days ago.
all the help and support email addresses do not work either. so you can't even email them for a response.

Do you know about another cool webmail that i can use. one that uses pop3. An someone that realy work good and reliable.

if i can find someone that can register a email domain for free then that would eb apreciated

i dont understand what you're trying to do here?

PM me exactly what u need if u want a domain registered.

your server, if it can see a live DNS server, is gonna try lookup the MX for webmail.co.za and then try deliver mail to it. which is a no-no if you are trying to "fool" it into thinking it is webmail.co.za. Firstly i have no clue why you wanna do this, secondly you need to tell postfix who its local domain is, i.e webmail.co.za and then put a hosts entry pointing webmail.co.za to localhost.

But remember, that means no one using that server to send email, will ever be able to send to the "real" webmail.co.za domain since it will think its the server for it.

ok nevermind i see what u wanna do, the short answer is no. you want your server to be mail for webmail.co.za for some users, and not for others. the RFC for smtp protocol doesnt provide for this. u either are a mail server/forwarder for a domain, or you're not. you cant base the routing on user accounts. at least i've never heard of it.

if I send to [email protected] your server will think it accepts mail for it and try look it up. It has no way of saying "well if mike doesnt exist, lemme look up the REAL webmail.co.za and send it there" because in its "mind" it is the server for webmail.co.za cause u set it up like that.

oh thanx. i think i wil register a domain name at the company that do our email. the reason why i started using postfix is that its free and not windows.and also to save bandwitdh. thanx for ur help

Setup your local ODN Wug domain something like odnwug.za.net or odn.grwug (you do not have register a domain if its only local traffic with no internet routable mail)
Could be another way I suppose

I do need a real email address so that i can send emails to external(non wugger) users that post on my forum. Who knows, maybe i can give wugger their own email address.

I know that its not allowed to give internet on a wug. But what about email?

Thats another ptoblem becos when people registed with my wug then they will recieve a email address like [email protected]. If i register domain odnwug.za.net for email then any wug user with email will be able to send and recieve email to external hosts and domain.
