Hi there every1!

I am looking to start a wiki site for us car lovers about DIY car maintenance. Its sad how we get ripped off by not only our dealers but general mechanics for simple jobs. It'll be a free service, whereby anyone who has knowledge about a specific car may write about various DIY projects. From simply changing air/oil filters to advanced stuff like re-hauling of engines.

Now,i'll be needing the help of freelance writers to submit any articles and they'll naturally be no minimum amount or anything of that sort.

Also, is a wiki site the best route to go? Or should i run a CMS or forum based site?

Thanks in advanced guys
Regards

Hello.
This is a great idea.

However, I think it would be best to use the forums that are already available to everyone. For example Alfa Romeo owners can visit alfaowner.com for assistance with maintenance of Alfa's.

yep, my best friend (besides my haynes) is the fiatforum

I was thinking we cover the major cars in S.A and let it be specific to our needs but i see what you guys mean. Thought of maybe just centralizing info but let it be only maintenance stuff. Sites like ehow.com cover aspects but rather vaguely, but hey im gonna make the site. Let it run for a year and if it got no success then will shut down the site.

First word of advice for readers would be to get an official manufacturers service manual or a Haynes manual for your car ;)

The site would be great for common problems experienced by different brands/models and how to fix it.

Could always set up a site with links to haynes torrents...

would this be legal? the more content, the better. Even if I struggle to find writers, @least the links would be useful

Not sure if linking to illegal stuff is allowed or not but pretty sure as long as you don't have the actual torrents or files on your server you should be fine.

i wont host any of the files, and will rather have a mini forum for linking building of torrents to the haynes books. now just start developing the site

You could also keep a list of other car sites/forums and technical sub-forums...

That's a brilliant idea !!!
Anyone need advice or assistance should gimme a shout or drop a PM as I am a Qualified Vehicle Mechanic .
