Potentially Toxic Chemicals

Hi I am looking at buying a factory that was previously occupied with chemicals, not sure if hazardous or not but am concerned that if I move into the factory that the chemicals from the previous tenant may still be lingering around throughout the building. The land lord said the tenant has decided to close his business due to being diagnosed with cancer(not sure what type). Could this be a result of dealing with chemicals and if so will the chemical fumes be absorbed into the building, and would the fumes result negatively on the health of someone?

Any help would be appreciated.

If it's radioactive it can be centuries ....

You do realise there are many kinds of chemicals out? If its dihydrogen monoxide then I think you'll be fine. If its chlorine then maybe you've got a problem.

Google decontaminating industrial sites, common issue. To remedy it can be as simple as a high pressure wash down of the buildings or needing to flatten the lot and transport the rubble and surface layer of soil to a certified facility.

No seriously the LD50s will have to be quite high to cause an issue.
