Power cable frayed Mac Book Retina

Frayed at the computer end - near the magnetic plug. This sort of thing has not happened with my "Made in 1981" Communist hairdryer which has been used by many people since that time.

Panasonic computers also strengthen their power cords at the bends too. Why Apple does not, and why Apple's stuff always frays and finally fractures is beyond me. Surely it's not because they want to sell more of them.
 
Their power cords are a major bugbear of mine. I've long since realised that there's nothing I can do apart from strengthen the cables at the two weak spots myself before they become an issue.

Apparently the cables are also rather tasty as far as dogs are concerned because mine keeps chewing through them. :o
 
I've found just not wrapping them up super tight and making a loop at the start point solves the problem.

My old PowerBook did the same thing with the fraying.

Thats exactly why. Apple are as greedy as they come.

How old was/is your adapter/power-chord?

Secondly, I have never had issues with power cords. I always look after mine - Apple products or not. Don't wrap them to tightly and don't make any sharp bends in the cable. Also avoid riding over them with awesome office chairs.

I also find that the smaller 45w MagSafe power adapter (comes with the MacBook Airs) is a little small for using the 'Cable management system"
