Please switch off all air conditioners to assist with lessening the load on the electricity network. #poweroutage.

Eskom & City technicians are working non stop within legal & physical constraints to have the power fully restored.

Several residents in the City are without power due to main supply feed from Eskom being interrupted. #poweroutage

We are aware of the power outages in parts of Tshwane. The City has lost its supply from Eskom. We will update shortly.

Feed being interrupted... legal constraints?

Sounds like eskom cut them off for nonpayment.

There was an issue at the Nyala substation, which a huge part of Pretoria.
And no, Acidrazor, that wasn't the problem. The grid wasn't even nearly under pressure now.

Temperature in PTA was predicted to reach 36degC today... Probably a lot of aircons on, and we might have been so close to the limit that everything just came crashing down... Proper planning at its best.

Almost. There was an issue in Centurion. When their power was switched back on, ours tripped. Chances are that the peak it hit at that moment was too high for the breakers. That's what was happening the other week when parts of Pta east was powerless too.

The last I've heard was that Garsfontein Ext 10 is back on, so is the area to Silver Lakes. Faerie Glen and Moreleta is off. Anyone who knows how busy Hans Strydom is - are the traffic lights on or off?

26 jhb suburbs out. The guy at city power said it's 'load balancing'. I am sure if they were load shedding it would be on the news tho, so I rate it was a technical problem

That's what happens when they DON'T load shed.

@Aharon
Quite possible that it was a technical problem. There was almost 3000MW available on the grid yesterday.

Oh, and just for those that think that shedding is a regular occurrence, there hasn't been any load shedding at all, since that massive load-shedding thing... 2008 I think it was?
