I have in the last few weeks have had the chance to drive a golf GTI 35 edition, a Polo vivo 1.4 and a yaris 1.0. I know they have different power outputs and you can feel a big difference between the GTI and a vivo.

But what power difference is enough to get your attention, see and feel the difference driving. is it 10kw, 15kw, 20kw or something as small as 5kw?

One of these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superkart#Performance must be super fun/scary. 440bhp/ton

440bhp/ton? Pffft Ariel Atom V8 900bhp/ton now that should be fun

@OP The biggest difference between the GTI and the other cars is that it has tons of torque available through out the rev range.
Torque=Rotational force
KW=Rate of power delivery

Polo 1.4
63KW@5000 rpm
132Nm@3600 rpm

GTI Edition 35
173KW@5500-6300 rpm
300Nm@2200-5500 rpm

So that's nearly 3 times as much power and just over double the torque

I had a 1.4i Citi a few years ago that produced 61KW and around 120Nm standard, after some upgrades it was 71KW and around 150Nm, couldn't really feel the difference in day to day driving

What did you do to get 10 extra kw?

What did you do to get 10 extra kw?

Head ported and polished, full viper branch + freeflow, unichip(I got it for free)

The freeflow was nice and quite as I don't like looking like a birk

No spoilers, no stripes, no stickers, only exterior mods were 15" 5 spoke mags instead of the standard 14" mags and a debadged grill.

You cannot feel a 10kw difference.

Well that's relative to where you start really hey.

I mean 10kw on a 100kw motor is 10%...you are going to feel that.

10kw on a 200kw motor is 5%...then you might not sure.

On one hand the Vivo should be lighter and built kakker and therefore might "feel" faster than it really is.

On the other the GTi is Turbo driven and that gives a completely different sense of power depending on where in the revs you are.

Then on a completely different side of a different coin you get into an Audi 4.2 V8 based car and although it technically doesn't feel all that much faster than the 2.0T version the fact that you can stay in top gear and put your foot down while still getting the same lift off makes for a completely different driving experience.

Like was said before it's not all about Power, but also Torque and all of that combined with weight makes for very different experiences.

On a bike for instance 10kw is HUGE.
