Does anyone know a simple way to do this, using a Sonoff switch or something similar? Basically I would like my home assistant app to alert me if the power is off?

I wrote a service to do this and ran it on a Pi to periodically send a heartbeat to an AWS Lambda. I did this because when this complex was still being develop we had lots of power issues.

Worked very well until I realised what it actually does is check if my internet is working...

Thanks, that actually gives me an idea. My home automation server and router are on an inverter but I need to know if the rest of the house is on or off if I am out. A Pi zero wireless with something similar to what you did on a non inverter linked plug socket might just do the trick.

I must still get around to it, but I'll be using a GPIO pin on a sonoff to determine whether one of my alarm outputs are triggered... which is essentially checking if there is a voltage on the alarm output.

Assuming you can keep your sonoff powered via ups, you could have a 3.3v wall wart connected to a gpio pin and configure Tasmota accordingly.

Or a light sensor in front of a light bulb :p

...vibration sensor on a fridge?

a sv/basic on a non backed up plug reporting status, then you can send a notification to your phone when it is off for x minutes, i.e it would check with the device every 2/5/10 minutes

Most good inverters have a 3 pin dry contactor so it can report power from Utility or Battery.

Thanks, that would be a great solution, but mine appears not to have that. It's one of those Ellies inverter kits with battery that I bought from Builders Warehouse.
