Power output on speakers

I have a question around power output on speakers.

If a HTS systems specs state that it has, eg, 1000W total power output, does it mean that this output is controlled by the speakers or the amp ?

What i mean is if i buy stronger speakers will i get more output or is the 1000W the max the amp will give me no matter what.

You will not get more power output if you buy bigger speakers, the maximum power output is determined by the amp. Vice versa, if you hook small speakers up to a powerful amp so that the speaker's maximum rating is lower than the amp's maximum rating, you could damage or destroy the speakers.
