okay so i am having a problem in the sense that any time i'm playing a game (FarCry 2 right through to Warcraft III) my monitor gets a whole bunch of multi colored lines running down the screen, and then the monitor goes into "power saving mode."

At first i was told it was the power supply, so i replaced it with a 600W power supply, but this did not solve the issue. I replaced my motherboard as my PC was hit by lightning, but still the same problem. So i thought it could be the graphics card, so i took that to PC zone, and they "tested it all through the night" and they say that it's not the graphics card. My Operating System at the time was XP, now im running Windows 7 and still the same problem. Got a new monitor and still same problem, have updated drivers for graphics card on many ocasions

Specs:
OS: Windows 7 (Problem on XP as well)
MB: MSI 631M3
Duel Processors (Core 2 Duo)
Video Card: ATI Radeon Sapphire 4850 HD

Have you tried a different monitor? Does this happen during normal (non gaming) operation?

Try the drivers since my pc also got struck by lighting and the same happened and it turned out the drivers where all messed up.

yes i have tried both, i have tried many simple things as u've said... it never happens on the desktop or in any programs such as photoshop or fl studio. only when running a 3d application, it always happens in the 3dmark Vantage graphics test

So your mobo has been replaced, tried a different screen, power supply, drivers even OS? It has to be your GPU then? Only things left are RAM and CPU, but those would have caused general problems, not just in games. Games are the only things that will strain your GPU, and if I understand correctly it is the only time this problem occurs. I had a 7900GT that had similiar problems. I think PC Zone did not test correctly.

EDIT: Maybe run a cpu burn in test? Or grab one of the memory test images?

okay, i put my graphics card into my sister's PC, and it had problems on her PC, and when i put her graphics card into mine, the problem disappeared... i am convinced it is the graphics card, but i think PC zone are stalling as the guarantee is almost up...

Sounds like PC zone is talking cr@p.
Did they mention how they tested the card.

Maybe run furmark on it for a while to be sure.

they just said they ran a graphics test all through the night, mine causes the "power save mode" problem on 3dmark vantage, on the second graphics test...

Maybe you should check the monitor.

Is it possible to take a screenshot of the lines plz?

Yeah if its down lines like he said it is then it is the GPU that is on its last legs.

Dude tell them you tested it on another PC and same problem... Take your PC in if you have to, to show them... and then tell them to put in another card to prove your point.

i have spoken to them about this, but the guy seems to think its because i have windows 7 installed, and wont seem to get it into his head that i had XP installed. he also refuses to test it on my PC as he says it doesnt prove that it's the graphics card. hmm, im thinking of taking the 3dmark vantage disc when i take the card back, and i want to watch them test it...

Yeah going to have to, and that is why I hate pc zone. Can't your insurance pay for it?

ill try make a plan, except i'd rather just get it replaced... i dont C why they wont just replace it tho

haha PC zone say there's nothing wrong with the graphics card rofl

so does this mean it isnt the graphics card? or pc zone are slackers?
