Have a pretty average PC, nothing intense, but i'm putting a 4890 in it soon. Thus need to upgrade PSU!

Would i be better off with the Vantec ION2+ 520W or the Gigabyte Odin 585W?

I saw the vantec gets combined amps of 40 on the dual 12v, which is better than the gig which gets like 36 i think..

i feel that even tho vantec is lower rated, i might get more actual power from it?

The vantec is better. That gigabyte power puppy is rated for peak, not continuous. It's actually under 500watts.

sweet thats what i thought... vantec will have a greater real power output!

Vantec is better for continuous use, where the Gigabyte is better for shorter uses.

ie:
Vantec if your pc works long hours continuous.
Gigabyte if you only use it a few hours per day.

How so...would the Vantec have a shorter life span if you only use it for a few hours a day?

lol, unless my computer combustes and blows up I can't see a problem with the Gigabyte running 24/7.

Yeah quite an odd statement...both will run fine 24/7 or short hours...

Just one delivers slightly lower amps on the 12V+...

Now that I think of it, most pc's last longer when used 24/7 opposed to a few hours of intensive use...due to the solders on the chips and stuff that thins out from the regular heating up and colling down. Just the fans breaks quicker and more dust collected in there..
