Power supply got GTX590

The pc will have just one hdd (1tb). 2 DVD drives. And that's pretty much it. What PSU can anyone recommend for my GTX590. Also the card needs those 8pin power cables to power it (two of them). I see these new PSU have these 6+2pin pci express power cables, is that sufficient? Or do I use the 6 pin to 8 pin power cable adaptors that came with the card?

Take a look at the Corsair TX series, or if you have the cash, the HX or AX modular series from Corsair. This now 750 and up, though.
The abovementioned will have 2x 6+2's as standard.
 
+1 Corsair PSU is da bomb, 750 will be enough.

Well the HDD and DVD drives don't really consume the most power.

Usually it's the CPU and GPU. Since we know what GPU you're going to use, tell us about the CPU and also your current PSU (if any).

In any case, if you have the cash I recommend you go for a Corsair AX series PSU.

If cash is an issue, then perhaps aim for the Corsair TX/HX range.

/off topic, but what PSU will you need when you wan't to run 2 x 580's in SLI mode?

if your power supply does not come with 2x 8pin (6+2) connectors, its likely it wont be good enough for the Graphics card. The 6 to 8 pin adaptors that came with the card is not a good idea.

They are there to prevent people from bringing the card back and saying I cant plug it in. Instead. for 2 or 3 weeks, you wonder why your PC is bluescreening on that new game once every few hours. So you thing the card must be faulty and you take it back. few days later, they get back to you saying nothing is wrong with it. Eventually you figure out your power supply is not strong enough and you get a new one.

Its like selling a printer without an cable.

I can also recommend the corair TX series. Good value for money.

My current favourite is the Coolermaster Silent pro Gold series is the. Good warranty, excellent warranty policy. 95% Efficiency.
 
The chip I intend buying is the i7 2700K ... Still busy building my system. Got the GPU and the monitor ... Need to buy the rest. Why is the AX series better than the TX. I don't intend SLI'ing ... and maybe my creative sound card will be in there also, the X-Fi Pro Elite (PCI)

Hmmm, I don't think that will work so well, seeing as the GPU wants 430W all for itself...

I doubt that PSU will deliver enough current for the 590.
 
Probably a bit dicey at 40A although it could work with a modern (lower power consuming)/non-OCed CPU/mobo.

Antec HCG 620 and Corsair GS600 both do 48A, get my vote unless there is cash to spend then get Corsair AX with 7 year warranty.
 
The GS does have the downside of having a very very poor power rating. White, for energy saving, and it's rather energy-inefficient.

Alternatives at their price then?

Obviously you're not getting all the bells and whistles. Necessity of them also depends.

as said the Corsair GS series is only white certified, so not very energy efficient.
