Power supply still tight despite progress

Go make your grossly overpaid execs run on treadmills hooked up to generators to generate more electricity if you can't produce enough.

Stop making your problems mine 'cos I.simply.don't.care.

Our lights have been flickering for almost a week. I'm worried about the supply and the effect it may be having on the PC.

I dont think the flickering has anything to do with the national supply cause my area has been fine

Modern PSUs should be able to balance any supply attenuations. It's the surges that you should be careful of, perhaps get a UPS?

At least they now having the funding to do these upgrades.

Don't you guys get it? This is just another charade (like the previous load-shedding)
to further increase the cost of electricity so the a**holes at the top can get bigger
pay cheques!

It doesn't matter whether we reduce our electricity consumption or not, there'll always
be "problems" until they get the price hike they're aiming for.

Its unfair having no choice but to use these guys for electricty unless you have other means

Remember the small solar project they had http://mybroadband.co.za/news/general/38621-eskom-goes-solar.html , goto megawatt park in JHB and you will see the panels have been installed but till this day they haven't been connected , and they stopped working on them about 2 months ago, what a waste of millions of rands !!!

“We urge all South Africans to partner with us to keep the lights on and save 10 percent of their electricity usage."

That's actually a really good idea! :D Just give me 5 minutes and I'll have all the lights in my house powered on. It seems like a strange way to save electricity, but I'm all for it if it'll help. :p Not sure how well I'll sleep tonight though. :erm:

We should form a website, Facebook page, twitter account & mass sms system.

Basically what should happen is:

During off-peak hours when Eskom tones there power stations down we should all switch as much as we can on and force a outage.
During peak when Eskom starts reeving up the power stations we all shut everything we can off so they spend more then they are charging.

Basically F**k them around and give them a ultimatum, bring the price down or we will keep screwing with the supply.....

We do have the power in our hands to change things, just we have to stick together on it, which in South Africa will not happen!

breakfast with Eskom’s “biggest clients” on Monday and had urged them to sign a pledge to use energy efficiently.
These "biggest clients" don't care what happens as long as they continue getting their power at <cost rates....which they will because some Eskom chop signed the damn contract guaranteeing this while being utterly oblivious to the effects of inflation.

Then again we had sufficient reserve margin back then. Now some Eskom chop in charge of strategy decided that connecting millions of extra homes to the grid without building additional capacity is a good plan. Surprise surprise no more reserve margin. Eish.

Its actually impressive how thoroughly they've managed to fck up the situation. On the one hand they've got bullet proof contracts forcing them to supply at a loss right now & on the other they've got a multi-year lead time on building capacity needed just to keep up with demand.

The only real question is whether those were really Eskom chops or whether they were Eskom people under pressure from everyone's favorite political party. I suspect its the second.

We can toy around a bit with reducing demand etc, but to be honest all the major factors have already been set in stone for a couple of years & now its mostly a questions of fingers crossed & hope for the best.

Lol, do your sums, it would end costing those trying to burden the supply a lot more. On top of that you are technically trying to sabotage the country, you'll be no better than terrorist blowing up a sub-station.

lmao at Eskom.. sorry but when u pay for electricity and a norm rate(not cheaper than ever) they can go **** themselves when everything comes crashing. When you force the consumer to fork out more you are **** out of luck trying to ask them to reduce their usage to be 'nice'. Nice left the country when the hikes came.
