My PC has a 300W PSU, and I need to upgrade. The current devices using power from the supply is:

Core2Duo 2.5 GHZ
2 GB Single Stick DDR2 Ram
DVD Writer
Sata HDD
USB PCI Card
Geforce 8600GT
USB Iburst modem
USB: Hard Drive
USB Memory Stick
USB Bluetooth Dongle
USB Wirelss Keyboard Reciever
USB Memory Card Reader
Two Case Fans

What wattage power supply do you guys think I should take? I would also assume a 300 WATT is too low wattage for all these devices?

Thanks in advance

Well I'd go for a brand name PSU. Such as Coolermaster, Gigabyte etc.

I'd say, a 500-600w would be more than sufficent to push all that, and it'll future proof you a bit more. :)

I'd recommend a Coolermaster, very good prices for what you get. :)

Corsair make brilliant psus i hav the 520hx. Its 80% efficient which means more power less heat, comes with modular cabling. This psu is 520w but can easily run a x fire setup. Also wots generally a good indication of quality is the warranty of a product, some psus come with a 3 month warranty which is really not something that inspires much confidence in my eyes. A good psu is gonna set u back 1k plus tho. 500w these days from a reputable brand is more than enough unless u planning mad raid setups with x fire

Are you using all those devices off your current 300watt?

I would go for a Cooler Master Extreme Power 390watt. Perhaps the 460watt version at about R70 more.

Anything above is serious overkill for your rig...

Yes, I am running all of it off the 300 watt. So I guess a 450 watt or a 500 watt, should do. I am also planning on adding two more SATA HDD's, so I guess it would be best to go for a 500 watt, or do you guys think that is overkill?

Still overkill - SATA drives use ±10watts each IIRC.

Go for the 460watt Cooler Master Extreme Power if you want to be safe. If you can't afford the extra ±R70 then the 390watt version will be more than adequate!

the extreme power drives are very reliable performers but they are noisy as ****

None that I've installed are noisy. Lots of people have confirmed this.

Which one(s) have you seen that were noisy?

I know some of the 550watts have fan issues which makes them a bit noisy after time...

well it was a 550w, have a 650w now thats equally loud.

we obviously have different ideas of what too loud is hehe

I had a similar rig that ran on a quality 300w

Think the coolermaster 390w will be perfect for your rig.

or even a Gigabyte Superb 460w would do a good job
