pity the solar thing still so expensive, for unit that gives enough juice.
decent generator probly still cheaper.... but for long term solar the way to go.

if Eskom were to follow other countries' example and buy back excess electricity from consumers, who can generate their own, they'd get much better buy-in, and have more capacity.... but they too darn greedy.
we have many colleagues from group in europe that have solar panels at home, and their power companies pay decent amount for power.
I think Sappi here in ZA offered excess electricity to Eskom, but the greedy ones at Eskom didnt want to offer acceptible price.
 
There was mention of a rebate from Eskimo if one had to buy solar but they never seemed to go on their word with the rebates
 
eskimo not incorrect.... if we sit without power in the cold :)

we may need all those unused, dumped school books for fire, if that other gov dept also not shaping :D
 
I'm in no mood for relying on Eskom this winter, the moment the trouble started in March I decided to take action ASAP!

Built up a system of solar panels - 880watts, batteries 24v/400AH, 1.2KW inverter.

Now I can sleep soundly knowing that even if the power goes off forever I can still enjoy my bright electric lighting, TV, electronics, fridge and more! I've got gas heaters and a gas burner for cooking and heating water if I need to.

The only major inconvenieces I'd suffer until I upgrade the system further are no dishwasher,aircon,geyser,vacuum cleaner and a few other power hungry appliances.

But sparing those I'd say BRING IT ON ESKOM!!!, just leave the sun alone though - you can't take that away surely...
