So if some wag steals the cable which goes from your house to the electrical pole, it's your problem... which is fair enough.

But if they steal the cables which goes from pole to pole, it's their problem, they cannot pass that cost to the consumer as the levies should cover that.

Expect levies to go up steeply in order to cover these losses.

Also don't expect their technicians to be able to come out and replace stolen cables as they may be attacked by thugs.

A couple of years ago they started replacing the pole2pole cables with something less commercially attractive though, I think they're now mostly made of steel or an alloy instead of copper - Lupus will know.

Mine got changed back then, used to have plenty of theft and it stopped.

Yup pole to pole is them, but pole to house is you. A friend is an electrician and has had many jobs fixing those cables where home owners were like but it's City Power and he's like nope.

If this were true, then there will soon be people mounting structures and anti-theft technologies on municipal land, which is unthinkable.

This will definitely be challenged in court.

The muni fixed an underground cable fault between the pole in the street and the meter outside the kitchen window. Must just be a CP thing where incompetence is the standard.

Given the country we're in, I'm hardly surprised.

Would likely take a severe incident to qualify the court effort and waiting list, maybe a big business like a shopping centre.

They generally don't go for the underground lines to houses as they aren't worth the effort, the over head ones they are, but not seen many of those. Unless it's the South or older Randburg suburbs
