Agreed. Perhaps its to lessen the blow so it doesn't look "as bad" ?

Did they say why we've gone to stage 3?

Apparently 3 units were lost and the delay in bringing back 3 units. But the funny thing is their numbers are actually better then yesterday? So how? Stage 3 is way way overkill but they still did stage 2 on Saturday when they had a declared avalability of 25532GW which was way higher then demand.
 
A shame that Eskom have stopped updating their data portal for now, perhaps they didn't like those recent articles on EAF trends and the target they're supposed to hit this month. Hopefully it'll be back.

Anyway, out of the scraps of info they do put out I glanced at the comparative figures from a year ago (Tue vs Thur but both weeknights so comparable imo), just a one day snapshot of course but interesting to see how LS is much lower but Eskom availability only slightly improved, lower demand a bigger factor.

It's how it's always been with LSN, that's why I prefer it. In addition to a cleaner interface that makes it easier to identify which slots correspond to which stage.

Only use to ESP for the API integration into HA...

They pull the info from Eskom for the forecasted demand and the declared availability. Eskom also always say follow the Power Alerts on TV... I mean like really
But here is Eskom saying their peak demand is going to be 26 700 and power alert says the same... But how do they even know? They just guess.

We all know the truth (except maybe @TheChamp) despite what Sparkles keeps saying. Eskom's fleet continues to deteriorate and it's too incompetent to manage that fleet responsibly. You can see it in the EAF figures alone.

The only thing that saved SA from massive increases in stages this year is the Saffers installing solar and of course the closure of businesses across the country. Hooray... viva ANC.

Eskom apparently updates it, cause that they say is what we watch for "live" alerts... Though not sure what they expect if the alerts on TV are all black

And compared to a year ago three Kusile units have been added back and another one synchronised, yet overall availability hasn't increased much if at all... so what would really be interesting is to see EAF/outage figures for each individual plant, to see the trends there. But seeing as they're cutting off the data flow rather than adding more I won't hold my breath, haha.

I mean is there proof they're actually running? Cause all we've seen is roughly 23GW for the last 3 months with moments of no LS.

Forget hasn't increased much if at all. It's decreased. February was a new record low.

New record low for what? If you're referring to EAF sure it was lower then last year Feb, but the maintenance was 6% higher and the EAF was 0.6% lower than last year.
Plus it can't really hit a record low if the lowest eaf was Dec 2022 with 50.4%
 
I miss the days when I came to this thread and saw one of Sikonathi's tweets, which gave us a consistent reference point to make some reasonable assumptions. Right now it's just guesswork...

Yea I meant for the period. It's pointless comparing EAF from one part of the year to another.

Year on year it's falling, not rising.
