I must I've been quite impressed with the wind output this week - I'm guessing we have much more wind installed than solar? SA should definitely focus more on wind than solar through the renewables energy programme.

I do wonder why hydro is not part of the conversation - seems the most reliable form of renewable energy - well at least the pumped storage version...

Cause pumped storage is rolled into available, we have I think 5500 wind, around 3k solar and 500csp. Pumped storage isn't cheap you need to build dams which aren't cheap and as we've seen they don't get built well sometimes.

Load shedding to be suspended on Saturday morning after record spell

Load shedding will be suspended at 05:00 on Saturday morning due to lower weekend demand and adequate emergency generation reserves, Eskom said in a statement on Friday.

The embattled power utility has implemented a record spell of unbroken rolling power cuts as it suffered a series of breakdowns at many of its key power stations in recent weeks.

"While the generation capacity constraints persist, the suspension of loadshedding is possible due to the anticipated lower weekend demand, as well as adequate levels of emergency generation reserves. Eskom will publish a further update on Sunday afternoon, or as soon as there are any significant changes.Since yesterday afternoon a generation unit each at Camden, Grootvlei, Hendrina, Kendal, Kriel, Majuba and Tutuka power stations have returned to service," spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said.

A generating unit at Duvha Power Station was taken offline to be repaired.

Eskom currently has 5 512 MW on planned maintenance, with another 13 484MW out due to breakdowns.

Lets hope the mist, rain and big waves stay away and no conveyor belts burst into flames, wrong valves opened, extension cords drops or angle grinder accidents.

So we still need stage 3 this afternoon / evening / overnight but suddenly all is well enough tomorrow morning to drop 3 stages to 0. And a fair chance next weekend will have a higher demand than during the week again.. :rolleyes:

Clearly some sort of lie is going on. But I'm done pointing out the obvious.

Evening Peak Feedback: 07/10/2022, 18:35
Total Demand: 28 830MW
Loadshedding: 3 266MW
Eskom OCGT’s utilised: 4
Renewable Generation: 1 250MW (Wind 842MW, CSP 408MW)
@Eskom_SA Available Generation Capacity: 27 131MW
Told you to wait to the next day, yesterday we could've made it.
