No you don't get it, literally 90% of my entire block is out right now.

In all honesty, assuming your power network is similar to eThekwinis, then the chances are that there was a fault somewhere on the ring, and your substation has been routed through a different segment which will be a different ID on the PLC system, or something like that.

I used to have it when my entire hood was out, but there was a block of about 40 houses that never went out because of a fault that ended up with our substation being switched to a different zone thanks to the power ring our substation was being fed from.

Had a very very long conversation with the Electricity guys months ago and they explained how the whole thing happens, and as frustrating as it is, it made sense.

Who knows here in JHB, some of the infrastructure is pre 1994, there isn't even active monitoring on most of them :-(

Same in eThekwini really.

It should obviously get better in the next few years cos most of the old stuff got destroyed in the floods.

We've got lots of rains and flooding up here in Guptastan, hopefully this will help in getting rid of the old reticulation and bring in new reticulation...
Hoping so, but from what I'm seeing they seem to replace like for like.

I think eThekwini residents got "lucky" with the floods in that it absolutely destroyed lots of things, so replacing like for like is tricky since things have to be rebuilt from the ground up, when the city gets its arse into gear and figures out which cadre is going to profit from the work that is.... so at least another 18 months while they argue about that.

Problem is JHB is also falling apart, but the politicians spent to much time fighting over who gets to sit in the mayorship chair, so it fell out from under them without even a consideration. The economic powerhouse of SA crumbling as if it was nothing

I think we have some councilor or someone working high up at eskom living in our area. The areas around us get unplanned outages often and then mostly up to 18 hours off. We rarely get unplanned outages and when they happen it is restored normally within an hour and on those days we then get skipped a load shedding stint later

Councillors have nothing to do with Eskom, in fact councillors are like the lowest rung

We did have a double from 2 to 6pm, but we didn't get any others, will see again at 2pm.
Apparently the 2 to 6 slot / outage was an Eskom problem and not City Powerless. I think they are not loadshedding us so as to have enough time to repair this bloody outage in the area.

Yeah, i've been trying to educate my community that Councillors basically have zero power to do anything other than escalate and ask for feedback.... it does seem to be sinking in with some people eventually.

Hopefully, we will need to see, as these outages have been going on since Friday and they can't get it fixed due to rain, load shedding and and.

Tell that to most of my area, they actually voted ActionSA in causing the coaliation that failed due to their interactions with the councillor

I do just sometimes put my head in my hands... but then the level of intelligence and understanding of communities is piss poor at best these days.

Yeah it is :-(

Even though this is massively off topic, the apathy of communities also pisses me off.

A few of us in our community managed to get senior managers in the municipality to come and have meetings with the community to try and deal with issues, and at best we managed to get 30 people to come through to these meetings, in a community of over 10000 people easily.
