So they managed to break the most reliable generator in the fleet Koeberg aswell and one of the brand new still under warranty ones at Medupi.

Fault on nuclear side = possible meltdown a la fukushima, major issues, not easy to fix.
Fault on generating side = tripped switch, sabotaged turbine/generator etc, can be fixed if the damage is not too severe.

If so, did they install any equipment to prevent this from happening again, or was it deemed too costly, impossible or not feasible?

All the OCGTs add up to almost 3GW to make up for koeberg they would need to run 6 only. If you've not noticed in the last 6 months they've not run more then 6 of theirs.
