I'm sure when they made the stage 8 schedule, they never expected to actually get to stage 8. Now that we are there, they have to make new higher stage schedules or else the grid fails when we get to stage 8 as there is nothing they can go to shed more as they are already shedding curtailment since stage 6.
Also because they are now seeing diminishing returns as the higher they shed the higher the demands. When those stages were made people didn't have backup power, there were more generators then inverters. But now it's like ah crud
 
The most concerning thing is that we have been hovering around 24-25GW availability for probably 6 months or longer. It seems there is no plan or no skill to start fixing the downed units.

Are you saying there is 2000MW of batteries out there?

It takes quite a lot of skill to have recovered what failed in the first place, even if later failing again. Whole thing looks controlled to me, why I believe the left wing is behind it, like many of the power issues elsewhere in the world.

Let's not forget how well (compared) we did last winter, then suddenly these 6 months of "lack" of control.

That would be pretty cool if there were, but the other factors, heating and cooling take a heavy knock on electricity, just the spikes of your fridge is ten times the normal. Remember 4 hours is the theoretical limit a fridge should be off, freezers can be much longer.
Then take into account all the little batteries, all the bigger batteries, the people cooking, washing, ironing or whatever they would've done at normal times, you shift the load. 2 hours every 6 hours sort of breaks even, 4 hours every 4 hours and you start seeing things happening at odd times.

Its probably why they started this multiple stages in a day thing. Soon very few will have power during peak times and they will phase out areas going into peak and phase them back slowly after peak ends.

Probably, as in the past shedding also generally used to go to 10, or at least the higher stages. So you'd have stage 2 till 4pm and stage 4 till 10pm and back again. But now it's like we are on the lower stage for maybe 11 hours which doesn't really change a lot.
At the end of the day LS is not achieving the goals as honestly they need to look at the bigger customers and start pushing them, but they won't as they know those would just go frak you and leave.

What they "need" is to not have 50% of their generation permanently offline. Finish and klaar.

If this situation is controllable then that must be the way forward. So then surely they're thinking why not accept that there will be some loses either way and impose restrictions in the areas that we can best afford to lose industry in.

What do you mean not working? The goal of load shedding is to prevent catastrophic failure and the fact that we haven't tipped over the brink means LS is working.

There is a limit to how much you can keep shedding. They currently have a regime that tries not to completely **** the economy. Well, of course anything beyond LS 8 will mean the economy gets ****ed anyway. I have heard some of the plans Eskom has beyond stage 8 and it means some industry will have to put production on care and maintenance.

Depends. Do the anc really worry about next year's vote enough? Is there enough control over themselves in the party? Will they cave in enough with current pressures, or get shifty feet yet gain?
