For 900MW? I mean we have 44GW of coal, the problem is 15GW is down most of the time.
I still don't understand that. Why can't any of it get fixed really long term in stages, and why is the *2/3rds that works not affected.

( * In simple terms, I do realise that what goes down isn't always the same 15GW supply.)

Last year it was a constant 12GW, this year it's 15, next year 18? Who knows with this trend.

So useless maintenance maybe. So far anyway, some new-supply planning is starting to manifest.

Nope new supply should've been on the cards 8 years ago and almost finished by now. Renewables are not the new supply as it's limited to time of day and of course other factors.

Thats just sad to watch.

Seeing overall generation capacity drop every year when it should be rising
Well there are two camps to this.
Demand from the public actually goes down as people start to switch to more efficient products, this happens with companies as well, but it's not going to drop it that much.
Capacity should've scaled up considerably over the last 15 years, but instead we've had 2 power stations struggling, back in the day Eskom would've spun up 6 in that same time period.
Hell in that 15 years we could've had another nuclear power station which would be producing clean, efficient power.

What about the new private add-to-the grid incentives, surely many want in?

What will those private add ons be?
Other than individuals with solar etc. like you? Surely many industrial properties would like the opportunity to make something back on their power enhancements..

And maybe large power co.s from the US etc. seeing opportunity?

I would need to change my inverter, mine isn't one that can feedback into the grid, also with the restrictions of feeding back it's not viable.
This also leads to some other issues, during the day with the sun shining high we have a lot of excess power what do we do with it? They'd need storage of some sorts to actually make it viable.
Well we'd need to have power privatised but a lot of people are against it, as Eskom provides FBE to a lot of people and they'd probably be removed if it's privatised.

Okay, so baby steps.... but the larger potential contributors are likely to start knocking at their door aren't they, or are there hidden issues there as well?
