My guess would be they've been running those OCGTs hard. It will come soon when they need to replenish the diesel...
That brings me to my second question:
What is the difference between the blue and red lines then?

EDIT: answered.

Declared Availability and Maximum Availability, so basically one is without needing Emergency reserves while the other is with it.

Could it be the IPPs/Renewables saving us?
ILS, VPS and them possibly

So minus the 447 from 31 637 for it to be 31190.
Take the 30 496 add 13x150 = 32 446 (Eskom max available, though there are 20 OCTGs)
Then add the 6 IPP OCTGs 900 + the renewables of 851 = 34 197MW

Yep along with OCGTs would be part of max. Available is Eskom's fleet only...
No Available is what is available, MAX is with the Eskom OCTGs of 3000 or so.

27065.000,"LoadForecast":25786.000,"MaxAvailability":30124.000},{"Timestamp":"2022-06-17T15:00:00","Date":"2022-06-17

This is why you'll always see Max around 3GW over Available.

except "available" in the above equals "max (red) line" in the chart?

Yup the IPPs would carry for that, but also where is this chart is it todays? If so you're about 3 hours to early to really check it.
Also see how it's worked out, even last night Eskoms max available was about 32 446
So Eskom has "lost" 2500MW in 1 day?

One would assume that it would be counted in the "emergency" "peak demand" category as it's not an endless supply?
No idea, but looking at the data portal they do use some pumped storage through out the days when needed.

No idea, but you shouldn't be looking at poweralert until after 11am or so, as generally the update from the previous day is an "estimate" and not right. Also poweralert is more of a guide as sometimes it doesn't match up.
