Go on holiday or spend that money towards a solar system is also a decision a lot of folks are having to make.
I think a lot of us (myself included) thought/hoped it was just a few weeks of the L4/L5/L6 load shedding back in Sept or whenever this kicked off again.

However 3 months on and its seeming more and more likely that stage 2 at a bare minimum will be the norm now for the rest of our lives in SA

So its holidays, solar or plane tickets...

So how ****ed are we next year? Stage 6 deep in December sounds like we're heading for Stage 8+ come Jan.

It's possible that they 6gw plus down for maintenance. Summer usually has a lot of work being done for the ramp up to winter.

Since sabotage again seems to be the main concern, now that they're again mentioning it's "possible", says to me that we just have to somehow turn that corner.
Thing is, the army isn't going to achieve much, to be polite.

The source - re local mafia, can only be brought under long term control by an honesty-based authority.
If the greenies then we're stuffed, anc have been well and truly bribed.

Winter 2023 is going to be a total nightmare. Might move our emigration plans into February, just need to get the buss sold before then hopefully

Its so hard to tell what is caused by political manipulation and infighting and what is actual infrastructure failures. When 8 units fail roughly at the same time quite often you have to wonder. But at the end of the day if you want reliability you or your community have to do it yourself it seems.

For years using gas heaters have been seriously cost effective, for our usage anyway as some people on the forum seem to think it costs more strangely.
We also cook with gas.
Geyser is electric at this stage but we keep it off a lot.

We also decided to get rid of our pool, it's now a big compost heap, with plants in it.

Honestly. I would be happy with just stage 4. Stage 6 is ****ing terrible.

Any word on when Durban will get back to being loadshedded correctly ?

Hmm...while Stage 4 does get rid of the nasty 4h slots, I still think being hit twice a day during what I call core hours (6am-10PM) is quite strenuous.

I guess when our power consumption gets back to pre-looting/flooding levels which is probably never.

There's one real potential solution - first real chance is actually coming to replace the anc now, but replace with what?
Practically only a weird coalition seems possible and with little stability gain, so probably just clutching at straws.

There can't be much diesel left at this point

Anyone know what the IPP OCGT actually is?
I have a question about this graph.
The RED is Eskom OCGT. The black is coal.
Why when the demand drops in the evening does coal scale down, and not the OCGTs? I would expect the coal to be a constant base load and the OCGTs to do the load adjustment/peaking?

The black is coal minus pumped storage, so during the night they are pumping water back.
So the graph shows 15.7GW but there is actually 17.6GW - 1.9GW of water pumping in the below example.

The quick jump back to stage 4 this morning seems to hold promise. But why can they suddenly recover from 6 gennie failures overnight?
