Unfortunately not an option. Medupi and Kusile's a shining example of mismanagement etc.

Now take a shufty at Hinkley Point C, and imagine the ANC in charge of that. Plus keep Medupi and Kusile also firmly in mind.

Yep. Not worth it, because it'll be a total stuffup and it'll most probably do a Fukushima/Chernobyl when starting it up.
@THE Librarian - would you consider nuclear if say the French company, EDF, built it in SA?

^^ Some of the other items of interest mentioned;

“The board will soon be able to approve a funding model for the diesel procurement,” he added, without providing details, including whether the National Treasury was willing to assist with any funding.

“We are putting in place engagements with farmers and with agricultural societies to see how we can assist farmers, particularly when loadshedding is at exceptionally high stages.”

Oberholzer indicated that the current tariff structure and loadshedding standard might need to be reassessed in the interest of ensuring food security and continued export production.

It's such a slippery slope... Logically I'd find it hard to argue no, but who knows, the next exemption might be for the powerships...

Also got new respect/View over nuclear after watching this:

Wonder how we compare on spent fuel safely...

My whole argument is simply based on the Japs - highly capable and all done really well, yet they had a disaster.
No thanks, not ever added to here.

The thing that hit me was that site has been down for 9 years yet the spent fuel in the shielded dry storage where enough to heat the air coming off to 48C and will be doing so for some years still <-- Like WTF

We need to deal with the spent fuel 1st before we go "balls to the wall" and pop them all over the place.

Yes cause you're often going to get an earthquake and a tsunami like that all the time? Also they've learnt lessons from that and in the 70s years of nuclear even the big 3 is only 2%of the 667 plants that have ever run and it's still actually the safest power source.

We deal with the spent fuel every day, in fact it's safer then any other power sources byproducts.
Remember even the spent fuel will actually die out, the byproducts from other sources remain deadly forever.

Thing is it can happen, and these days the weather is whacky.

This country is not safe. Nothing can be counted on with authority here.

Lets say DBN had a nuclear power plant and something like the July looting happened. What then?

I'm about halfway through the video. Scary stuff!
