There seems to be a lot of excitement about a "spike" caused by backup systems. 5-8am and 5-8pm have always been peak demand periods, even without load shedding. How much higher is the peak due to backup systems? Eskom has not flagged this as anything out of the ordinary.

Load-shedding slots are supposed to be distributed. It's not like the whole country has power switched on at the same time after load shedding, and everyone's inverter starts charging at the same time.

The evening spike is world wide not just SA....
and solar is gonna make it worse re:

I know. I am just referring to all the experts on MyBB predicting that backup systems will make load shedding worse or collapse the grid, when the electrical engineers at Eskom have not said so.

It might not be as bad in SA, because SA`s state energy is failing, everybody in SA also buys a battery compared to other countries where most buy only the panels and inverter with no battery.

So if you have a battery, it will be charged by the demand spike time, and be used instead of the grid.

Yeah Batteries + load shedding is actually a counter for the duck.

Its shifting demand

Strange, ours isn't the same at all, the meter readings have been used and kWh charged accordingly.

Peaks are actually till 10pm normally, but the reason why it's higher is because people have had to move their loads. if you're off from 4pm to 6pm for example you now start cooking later, if you're off from 8pm, you'll also cook earlier, see how it works now?
