Ive seen with my own eyes members of the Association of Nyope Boys with checkers packets wrappped around their hands swinging an axe onto a live cable... They aint worried if its live or not...
What do they think the checkers packet is going to achieve?

I can only imagine the harebrained ideas being discussed. I hope they don't force ripple controls again that would really screw with the value my solar system gives.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they're planning. Fortunately I use gas to heat the water in the house and my electrical geyser has not been switched on in weeks now.

TBH I have no real issue with ripple controllers, but if they want them they must pay for them and pay to have them installed so that they only impact my geyser... and there must also be a way to identify when the ripple controller is turning off the geyser.

I think people will just bypass them.

Well of course they will, that is a given. I would very likely do the same since my geyser is on a timer and is only on at sparrow fart in the morning so I can have a hot shower in the morning.

But in theory the idea has a small amount of merit, whether its worth the outlay for Eskom is a different story though.

They must also just be used between the 5pm and 9pm peak. I could live with that but we can all see how other systems work in sa. Just look at traffic lights as a good example.

My favourite system (at least in Durban) atm, are the large digital signs that are supposed to tell you how long the travel time to certain exits from the freeway are currently. Very bloody useful little piece of information. They haven't worked for probably a year, and before that all they showed were COVID messages. So some entity spent millions on the system and its been basically fscking useless for 3 years now.

world cup soccer tender. Warning: there is an accident ahead, please sit in traffic because that's all you can do, thank you and have a great day.

Well maybe it was one of those tenders... but I found them to be stupidly useful in Durban when it tells you that it will take 25 minutes to get to the Pav when it would normally take 8, lets me go "Fsck this, I'm using the M19 instead"

They also in locations where its too late to take an alternative route even if you wanted to. Dumbest things ever.

May I introduce you to waze?

Ahhh yes, weirdly enough I found the signs to somehow be slightly more up to date than Waze/Maps.... Waze and Maps can take 5 - 15 minutes before showing a huge traffic fsckup ahead of you.
