I was recently given one of these i used Mac's back in the OS7.something days.

So yeah i am new to this. Unfortunately I would like to reinstall it but will only get OS 10.4 from a friend on Monday.

What i would like to know are there any appz you guys reccomend that i should get. Any suggestions ect.

Right now it is fyck ass slow, but i ran fsck in the terminal in the beggening. That helped.

Also how the fark do i stop spotlight from indexing. Slows things down :/

I'd say let it index and get it over and done with - searching will be pointless with out it.

As for apps - depends on what you're going to do with it :)

EDIT - it's best to run fsck in single user mode - better still get, install, and run applejack. http://applejack.sourceforge.net/

You'll probably want office then  most ppl do. Fortunately its actually nicer than the pc version. For presentations Keynote kicks powerpoint's butt.

17"- sounds like we've got the same machine. :)
