Powering router from light bulb socket!

lol 2X4 box (plastic), 15A Plug socket (preferably plastic) and a 20mm gland.
Make sure the 2X4 box has 20mm knock out hole or you will have to drill one yourself. You can go get all the stuff at Mica or any reasonable hardware store and if you need to lengthen the cable do not use connection blocks or twist the wires together use ferrules to join them.

Thanks gunyy, I'll pay then a visit soon!

Vampiroroothus, what Kind of electrical socket r u talking about?

(some contractor decides to use a power tool in the cieling, fixing a geyser or beams sees the socket and uses it instead of running a lead down and the cable melts)

Quick fix for this, is to use a British 13A plug and socket. Thet have rectangular rather than round prongs. The plugs also include a fuse, which is a nice bonus.

headstrong, I had just had an electrician install an extra power point. Cost me R400

The problem is that it isnt my property so I cant call a technician in.. that is why I need to use a light socket or something

I'm renting too. Phoned the owner and asked if it's OK to have an extra point installed. She said it's cool and even insisted on paying for it.

I have simply run ethernet cable to my nearest "normal" power point. Then plug in "power brick", connect POE unit (plug in both the power brick, ethernet cable and normal LAN cable) and power on router. That way you arent breaking any laws, and you wont kill yourself with large amounts of electricity

If you lived in Durban, id do it for half that price O_o

Also the main thing is to not leave wires in the open. Sure there are laws and such.. but you only need to worry about them when youre moving out. Its not like your roof is gonna catch fire lol

don't be stupid... a light socket has like 100watts going through it... which means you use anything that uses more than that and BAM you'll blow the wiring or the thingy that supplies the bulb with power

I'd be surprised if your router uses even 20 watts though.
