Hey peeps.

I am looking at extending my network at home using /tp-link-av500-nano-powerline-adapter

My questions:

  1. Are they any good
  2. These are wired, can i at any stage add a wireless adapter at one of my plugs that will work with these?
  3. Can i connect more than one endpoint to one port on my router, or is it one at the router, and only one additional at a plug?
  4. I need at least one wireless externder that can plug into my power outlet, any suggestions on a compatible one?

Yes, these gizmos are very good, have a set running at home

although a few points to consider,

all the plugs must be over 1 DB board, WILL NOT work over anything other than that

and yes you can get a wifi adapter that can transmit from a powerline adapter, does exist,

awesome.. just added another Question

I have had mixed results. From the 500Mbit models, the one point performs at almost 100Mbit real world, which is fine, but the other point barely manages 20. Ended up running cat5 anyway. My brother has had much better results.

I have had mixed results with powerline adapters in terms of distance placement, which is to be expected.
I can confirm that they are stable in the sense that you will get constant speeds, so if at its placement distance you get 20Mbps, then you will get that speed constantly with very little dips.

When I had VDSL, my wireless router was in the centre of the house and my wifi was strong over 5Ghz.
Then I got Fibre, but the install was at the 1 corner of my house, with my study in the complete opposite corner of the house which meant that even 2.4Ghz wifi was just too short to reach for reliable connectivity(Constant connecting and dropping).
So I ran a powerline adapter from my fibre to my study, but the max speed I could get was 25mbps, which meant that I lost half of my 50mbps fibre line.
So instead I ran the powerline adapters from my fibre to the central point in my house, which I connected my wifi router to.
This gave me good wifi everywhere and I could utilize the full 50mbps fibre in my study.

I bought this: http://www.geewiz.co.za/cables-adap...dapter.html?search_query=powerline&results=18

It has a gigabit lan port wheras the Tp-link you linked to has a 10/100, which will limit you to ever getting speeds over 100Mbps.

Meh, they work for some and not others, based on a whole lot of factors

Running some Cat5e is much better in the long term

To answer your questions:
1. Yes, they work well PROVIDED they are all on the same circuit. If you have 3 phase this could cause a problem, if single phase then you will be fine.
2. Yes you can.
3. Why not get the AV500 Wi-Fi kit instead? http://www.loot.co.za/search?cat=nzs&terms=av500+powerline+wi-fi+kit

I have the "sender" connected to our router in the home office - receiver in lounge for AV & media player, another (Wi-Fi) in the garage, one in each of the children's bedrooms & a (Wi-Fi) in the main bedroom. Very happy & they work like a charm :)

Also - not sure where you are located, but if in Jozi & you can get to Edenvale/Longmeadow then go & buy from Uniterm Direct, they are around R200 less than Loot.
