I would like to use a Linux based laptop for making Powerpoint presentations. Unfortunately Open Office Impress does not work for this since it re-formats even simple text based Powerpoint slides. Has anyone here used any presentation software that they have found to be compatible?

It does not have all the nice screen transition effects, but I normally print my presentation to PDF, gooi pdf full screen and you have the same effect (well kinda).

Thanks for the comments. The pdf option will probably work since I do not usually use transition effects etc, and looks worth a try. I may also resort to installing Office under Wine if other options do not work out properly.

Hope it helps. ctrl + L should do the trick.

Google Docs. Has nice presentation software. They improved it recently.

Was just about to mention this, can it be used offline though?

I dont know. Nothing of mine is really ever offline. I do use the chrome Google Docs offlilne app... but never had a chance to test it.

Strange, my experience is that of all the OO products, Impress worked the best with its conversions. Do you have the all the fonts used in your presentations on your linux machine? The linux gui usually makes pretty poor choices for look-alike fonts out of its own collection.

The fonts themselves are installed. The problem is that OO / Libre can change the font size and indents. With Google Docs the fonts themselves can be changed.

Following the suggestions here, using PDF Creator in Windows and then viewing the pdf in Linux using the Gnome Document Viewer in presentation mode gives good results. Also tried Impressive for viewing the pdf and it does have some nice presentation features.
