I'm looking for a point and shoot type camera because lugging the 7D everywhere is not always practical. I know these two don't reall fall in the same catagory but if you had a choice between them which one would you pick and why?

Thanks

I would pick the S95 without any doubt.

For a P&S used only on odd occasions as a backup (given that it is decent, which the S95 is) the smaller the better.

I think the S90 and G11 were near identical units inside - and the difference caem down to casing and a few odds and ends.

My guess is the S95 and G12 is the same, so near identical. I think you just need to decide the casing, weight etc

Get a waterproof, shockproof one. What 3xZoom with ~8MP.

I've got lots of great pics I'd never have been able to get with a normal camera. Underwater shots, beach shots, surfing etc... :)

Depends. Do you want to use external flash with it? Do you want to have hard controls for shutter/aperture/exposure compensation/ISO etc? The S95 is more fiddly in that regard, but in terms of quality output, it's the same.

I have a G9, and I like it a lot. But in situations where I don't want to bring the DSLR due to size constraints, The G9 is generally too bulky too, i.e. when I need a jean-pocket cam :) I am going to get a S95 in addition to my G9.
