Powerwall 3 launched in SA

Tesla’s latest premium all-in-one energy storage system — the Powerwall 3 — has launched in South Africa.

First rolled out in the US in September 2023, the latest model has sold over 850,000 units worldwide.

It looks beautiful and sleek and it is a great step up from powerwall 2, but it is more than 15KW Solar packages already. These include the solar panels etc.

And you can still put something together for much less as the above is three phase as well. I just looked for something comparable and found something above this spec for less.

Also then there are the question if these will be on the approved lists of inverters by the municipality etc.

Depending on the last statement people (me included) might consider this more because of its design and aesthetically pleasing look.

Are we going to start having Tesla vs (Android equivalent) discussions for power too now...?

When you see this under the pricing section on a website you know you're about to get effed in the A.

Today's Chinese LFe batteries and Deye, Sunsynk etc. inverters are so damn good in general that no-one really needs this unless you're very concerned with aesthetics and bragging rights, I guess.
Integrating the inverter with the battery pack just always seems like a bad idea to me, if it wasn't there'd be more Chinese competition in this space by now.

I've never seen the Tesla power wall app but I'd be surprised if it provides better functionality and monitoring than a decent inverter with Solar Assistant integration... granted, the Tesla stuff will be way more "Apple" like in ease of use and aesthetics.

Also, it seems the Home Assistant integration options with the thing is pretty lame in terms of actually controlling the inverter.

"Powerwall 3 also boasts a Storm Watch feature that can prepare homes for outages based on severe weather predictions.
When a potential event is detected, the battery will charge up to prevent a home from being left without electricity if the grid supply gets cut off."

hehe, it solves a first-world problem, how quaint.

I think one place where the Powerwall excels is if you want to install it outside.

Sure there are other options but it's generally still much more of a faff.

Launched in which South Africa?
This South Africa or Arizona South Africa?
Just making sure
