Hi everyone,

What is your experience with poynting antennas in terms of longevity. I'm going to be mounting one at the coast soon. Should I sacrifice some signal and mount it inside the roof or are they built to withstand the elements indefinitely? Will the heat inside the roof do more damage than the elements? Can you order replacement cases somewhere?

All anecdotes welcome and appreciated

Sure, so far I've got mine mounted for almost three years in the North West region so I get a decent selection of the elements minus high humidity and coastal erosion, the only damage so far was from myself trying to pull the cables through the wall and the plastic ends came off, otherwise it's still looking as new as the day I got it, they're really well made.
I'd definitely love to hear more feedback from coastal peeps though!

From my experience with outdoor TV antennas, the plastic components and cables get badly damaged by the sun after 5+ years and that is in Johannesburg, not the coast!

Got mine under a roof on the coast with rusting on the nuts and bolts that is about it.

Thanks Ronnie. Could you clarify, when you say under a roof, do you mean outdoors under an overhang, or do you mean inside the roof between the roof tiles and ceiling?

Also, how long have you had it, and when did you notice it start rusting?

Outside under an overhang, have it for about 1 year and 8 months.

I just checked it again and it is not rusting, the only thing rusting are the extra nuts and bolts I personally bought at a hardware store.

The casing still looks new probably due to it not getting any sun, just dirt from being outside under an overhang is all I really see.

I just sold one on this forum that had been living outside for a couple of years, under the roof overhang. No rust, plastic still good. Logo faded. Worked perfectly. I live less than a km from the sea and it was exposed to the elements (rain, wind, sun) amd survived fine.
