Hi,

I am experienceing an on and off problem (well ...it was working now its not) when trying to connect to the internet from my laptop (win XP Pro SP2) via USB to my k-jam.

It dials, authenticates then takes ages trying to register on the network, which fails, after which an error message comes up saying the PPP could not be resolved or something like that. Is this just the network that is having difficulty or something about my connection or my PDA config a leetle wonky? - it seems that the EDGE stuff on cell C has gone for a steaming pile of doodie since this whole Virgin Mobile fiasco so it wouldnt surprise me.

...anyone had similar hassles?

Hi there

Have had this kind of error from time to time. Normally just reconnect a couple of times and it goes away. I f in the middle of a connect and its taking long, then disconnect and then try again. Normally sorts it out quickly.

Hi SlinkyMike

The PPP authentication error is an error we are aware of and working hard on to fix. The error relates to a time out or missing information on our reference server. While initialising a GPRS/EDGE connection we do a look up on whether you are a prepaid or postpaid subscriber and what device you are using. If the look up is unsuccessful or the IMEI of your device is missing this error will occur.

The error occurs intermittently during our peak traffic periods when the database is busy - we are working to address the problem. If you are continuously receiving this error please PM me with your cellphone number and I'll get our engineers to force an update of your device details.

Cheers

hi C For yourself, umm not to b neurotic but is there some way to validae yur affiliation with cell c? I am a little dubious of handing out my no. online. Has anyone else on this board had assistence from you int he past nd can vouch for you? Maybe the board moderator has some input in this regard? I also have a pm from a user named: Upgrade asking 4 my no. mayb its just that I work in security but I smell a rat... open to correction but thought it best to mention my concern.

You can trust C for yourself

C for yourself does infact work for Cell C on the technical side of things regarding Data. I have been in direct contact with him over the phone. So from my side I trust him. So far there is a lot Cell C are planning to do. But i will let C for yourself keep us up to date with that.

I also have this problem, but normally leaving the dialup connection to retry a couple of times sorts it out. It is mildly irritating though. Good to know they're working on solving this problem.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the responses - checking my pm now and will sort stuff out with Cell C fpr yourself.
cell c 3g is well known and highly active on this board - thanks for your input, you have also responded to other posts of mine so thanks a bunch. In fact I think it worth mentioning how cool it is to be able to contact tech support via these forums - the fact that you guys are available and so keen to assist says a lot about the quality of the people employed by Cell C, nice one guys!

My Virgin Issues

what is your error code?

Sometimes on Vodacom it starts connecting and the data connection symbol flashes on my N6680 and then suddenly it disappears and the connection drops before even being connected. If this is your problem it appears to be a network issue and all you can do is to keep on connecting until a connection is established.

On Cell C with my 6680 I try to connect and sometimes it can take up to 30 seconds. Sometimes, it times out. Then I dial again and it connects. Very irritating...

I also don't have problems connecting anymore. I use a 64k Virgin Mobile sim in my I-Mate Jasjar. Probably the best device for internet browsing. If you don't have a notebook then is the device to have.

Hi, just wanted to conclude this thread - I think that many of the 'complaint' threads are just left as is once the problem is eventually solved giving the impression that the complaint was never resolved.

The PPP eror that I was experiencing has been resolved, I found the CellC guys n gals to be very friendly and helpful. they returned calls, kept in touch and worked with me to reslove the problem. It did take a little longer that one would hope but they stuck with it and it is now resolved and my SmartData connection is now sweeter than ever (albeit a little expensive but we all know that story).
Obviously it would be preferable not to have problems like this but when it does happen (and it will) its great to know that there are staff willing **and able** to fix it.
Thanks guys:)
